The holy anointing oil (Hebrew: שמן המשחה, shemen ha-mishchah, "oil of anointing") formed an integral part of the ordination of the priesthood and the High Priest as well as in the consecration of the articles of the Tabernacle and subsequent temples in Jerusalem. The primary purpose of anointing with the holy anointing oil was to sanctify, to set the anointed person or object apart as qodesh, or "holy".
Talmud asserts that original anointing oil was prepared by Moses and remained miraculously intact used by future generations without replacement, and in the future Third Temple when it is rebuilt.
Some segments of Christianity have continued the practice of using holy anointing oil as a devotional practice, as well as in various liturgies : rabbinical Judaism, the Armenian Church with holy muron, the Assyrian Church of the East, the Coptic Church, the Saint Thomas Nazrani churches .
Anointing Oil & the Corsican tradition
The important practice of using holy anointing oil in your life :
Evil Eye : Anointing with oil can also symbolize consecration or dedication. For example, when David was anointed as the next king of Israel, he was consecrated for his new role (1 Samuel 16:13). And when Jesus was anointed as the Messiah, he was consecrated for his ministry (Mark 14:8).
The practice of the evil eye involves total faith and prayer. The "signadora" in Corsica is a practicing Catholic who relies on the Virgin Mary and Santa Lucia among others. I Corsica certain words are not welcome, especially when addressed to children, vulnerable and candid par excellence. Beware of words like "Oh, how handsome he is"! "How cute she is" or "How smart they are" believed to give the "evil Eye". Compliments will only be accepted if they are accompanied by an invocation such as "God bless him / her", or if they are accompanied by the horns gesture with fingers. On the side of the young victim - the inughjatu - the process will materialize as a general malaise. One becomes drowsy, nauseous, and has a headache to the point where painkillers are no longer needed. The eye has had its effect. The only thing left to do is to go to the signadora to get rid of it and to get back on track. She is not a witch. On the contrary, she ( or he) is more of a "good person", here to relieve, to chase away evil and make good happen, against demons and other evildoers. The evil eye arises from feelings such as envy and jealousy, caused by the living (it is called "inochju") or by the dead (it is called "imbruscata" and requires a special prayer).
The exorcism begins by making three signs of the cross and putting "a lumerella a oliu" ( anointing oil in a plate with water ) in contact with four points on the plate, North-South, West-East, so as to form a cross. The plate must be a white, hollow plate. She recites "e prigantule", a traditional prayer in your own language and traditition and repeats the sign of the cross . The signatora with a 3 drops into the water, discovering in the shape of the oil stains floating in the water, the causes of the evil and the means to make them disappear thanks to the holy power of the anointing oil. The number THREE is sacred in all civilisations.( 3 drops represents the child of the couple, the divine trinity, the three levels of the universe: above, middle (earth) and below, that is to say: the future, the present and the past. It is also the number of rebirth: Christ rose on the third day ). To remove evil, "a signatora" uses a container of water and a little anointing oil. She will take care to open the windows before officiating, so that the evil can escape. We recommand you to get the anointing oil blessed by an authority of your faith ( imam, Arabic imām, Rabbi רב rav "master" or your father at church ). by doing so you will get a very powerfull holy tool against evil.
Corsican Anointing oil has its origin in the Hebrew Bible
It has been asserted that Christianity was introduced into Corsica in Apostolic times. Ughelli, in his "Italia Sacra", says of Mariana, one of the oldest settlements: "It received the Catholic Faith, and has had its own pastors, ever since the times of the Apostles"; St. Julia, also known as St. Julia of Corsica, was a virgin martyr who is venerated as a saint. The date of her death is most probably on or about 439. She along with St. Devota, are the patron saints of Corsica and believed having been the first known "Signadore"using the the holy anointing oil described in Exodus 30:23 and we have formulating it according to strict secular Corsican and Jewish traditions :
Anointing Oil is still used in various religions to important life events : Baptism & Confirmation & healing process) . In Judaism, olive oil was used to light the seven branched Menorah (candelabra), as well as for anointing kings. In Islam, the olive tree is considered a holy tree and described as a symbol of peace and friendship. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said “Eat olive oil and massage it over your bodies since it is a holy (Mubarak) tree” .
